Why Eat a Raw Food Diet?

What is a Raw Food Diet?

A raw food diet consist of uncooked, unprocessed and often organic foods as a large part of the diet. Foods should not be heated above a certain temperature (Between 92 - 118 degrees) depending on the type of diet. In some raw food diets, only vegetables, fruits, seeds and nuts are acceptable. Others may include fish, meat and certain dairy products as a source of protein.

There are many good reasons why people switch to a Raw Food Diet. Some of the benefits are:

- A better immune response means a body less prone to illness

- Raw food contains live enzymes that aids in digestion

- Body enzymes can better process metabolic activities

- Fewer calories help maintain healthy body weight

- Allows healthy intestinal flora to do it's job and improves digestion

- Feeling more energetic


Several things to keep in mind if you want to start a raw food diet. If does require considerable time since you'll be preparing much of your meals from scratch but the rewards will be great. Also it'll take discipline to avoid eating at restaurants that don't offer raw food options.


If you are just beginning a raw food diet you may experience an increased appetite and have signs of detoxification such as headaches and nausea. If you are pregnant or have health issues it's best to discuss it with your doctor before beginning a raw food diet.
